Arka Gdynia will combine league football with a major community health initiative this Saturday. The club hosts Polonia Warsaw in a special Pink Match, the centrepiece of the 'Arka Means Health' project promoting breast cancer awareness and preventive screenings. The I Liga fixture is scheduled for 10 October at 15:30 at the Stadion Miejski in Gdynia.
Free screenings and fan attractions
Starting at noon, numerous health stations will be active around the stadium. The Energa Foundation's Badabus will offer free blood tests (oncology package) without prior registration. A LUX MED mammobus in front of the Olympic Stand will provide mammograms for women aged 45-74, requiring advance booking. Specialists from the University Clinical Centre and Pomeranian Hospitals will offer basic measurements like blood pressure and cholesterol checks. At the GOSiR Stand, the Pomeranian National Health Fund will provide expert consultations, training in breast and testicular self-examination using phantoms, and information on prevention programs. Family attractions will be available at the Family Stand from 14:00, and a Grill Zone will operate on Janusz Kupcewicz Square. Fans can also visit the stadium pub 'Trzecia Połowa'.
Special jerseys and chairman's call
The Arka team will take to the pitch in unique pink jerseys. The white base kit features pink accents, including the club crest, sponsor logos, and the pink ribbon symbol. The jerseys are on sale in the official club store in adult, junior, and personalised versions. Club chairman Tomasz Augustyniak emphasised the event's importance. "Events like Saturday's Pink Match, which Arka will play in Gdyni, allow us to reach a large group of people, draw their attention and encourage them to get tested," said Augustyniak. He added, "I invite everyone to take part in this event and take care of their health."
Sporting context and match significance
The match against Polonia carries a dual meaning. For Arka, currently 12th in the I Liga table with 11 points from 9 games, it's a chance to improve their league standing. The opponent from Warsaw sits in 6th place, making a victory particularly valuable. The team heads into this fixture in good form, following a 3-2 friendly win over IFK Göteborg. In the league season, Arka has already scored 12 goals, averaging 1.33 goals per game. The squad list status and upcoming schedule can always be checked on our squad and fixtures pages. The 'Arka Means Health' project launched in autumn 2024 and has since expanded beyond blood donation to include cancer prevention, first aid training, and walking football for seniors. An AED device is located in the stadium tunnel, and during previous Pink and Movember Matches, hundreds of people were screened, with some referred for further diagnostics. Saturday's match is part of the broader 'Pier(w)si #wGdyni' campaign.
