Arka Gdynia face a key derby match against Lechia Gdańsk on Sunday at 20:30, fighting to climb out of the relegation zone. The Yellow-and-Blues sit 16th in the I Liga table with just 11 points from ten games, their record this season showing three wins, two draws, and five losses, with recent form reading three losses and two draws. Their latest result was a 1-2 home defeat to Polonia Warszawa. The team needs points to pull away from the dangerous 17th place, which also means relegation, especially as they trail the leaders, Pogoń Grod. Mazowiecki, by ten points.

Fan mobilization is high ahead of the trip to Gdańsk. The club has 36 official fan clubs in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, with the largest concentrations in Wejherowo, Puck, the coastal belt, and the Hel Peninsula. Strong supporter bases also operate in Kashubia, including Kościerzyna, Kartuzy, and Żukowo, as well as in Tczew. The most distant groups travel from Człuchów and Prabuty, with support outside the region coming from places like Ruciane-Nida, Lublin Voivodeship, and Germany.

Lechia's strength and a historic challenge

The rivals, Lechia Gdańsk, are in 6th place and in excellent form, having won five of their last six matches. The White-and-Greens have the league's best attack with 19 goals scored, and their defence, rebuilt from scratch in the summer, has shown clear improvement. For Arka, a league win in Gdańsk is a historic challenge, their last such success was 52 years ago. The last meeting between these sides ended in a 2-2 draw on February 27 this year.

Ahead of Sunday's clash, Arka is coming off a difficult run of results, recording just one win, one draw, and three losses in their last five matches. Their season goal difference stands at 12 scored and 13 conceded. In recent weeks they lost 1-2 to Polonia Warszawa, beat IFK Goteborg 3-2 in a friendly, and prior to that lost 1-2 to Pogoń Siedlce and 0-3 to Warta Poznań, while drawing 1-1 with ŁKS Łódź. The sole bright spot was a 4-0 win over Resovia Rzeszów. In the loss to Polonia, their only goal was scored by V. Gutkovskis in the 17th minute, assisted by D. Gojny. Following this derby test, Arka will face the league leaders, Widzew Łódź, at home in the next round. Sunday's match at a packed Lechia stadium will be a test of character for the Yellow-and-Blues, who desperately need points.

Arka's manager, Mirosław Chodakowski, must find a way to stop Lechia's effective forwards like Artur Szach, who has six goals and four assists. Capitalizing on their own chances to break the poor away form will also be key. The whole Pomeranian Tricity awaits this derby clash.
